Whats the best time of year to get your pictures done? Summer!
My personal favorite for senior portraits is summer. You can wear dresses and cute outfits without freezing, which really opens up the options. Its almost always sunny and bright, so you don’t have to worry about rain and I can get bright colors and spectacular warm backlight in the pictures.
I do outdoor sessions in the evenings, so you still have your days free for activities. Once fall kicks in, it gets dark earlier and earlier which starts making it hard and hectic to get it done after school. In the summer you can take your time getting ready without having to rush. If you do fall sports, you definitely want to get your session in now to avoid craziness as you try to get them done around sports, homework, and the yearbook deadline.
May, June and July mean green grass and flowers. August and September will be tall brown grass except in a few parks that are kept watered. In June we can shoot with roses or rhododendrons and other classic Portland flowers. July the wild flowers kick in. Keep in mind its a warm year, and things might bloom and dry out earlier then usual. If you do have your heart set on fall color, then mid-late October is the window.
Some people worry they won’t feel enough like a senior, but really the photo session can be the first step to having that feeling kick in. I suggest getting the best conditions for your images, and then at the end of the year, do a friends session to capture that end of an era feeling. If you and your friends all do your pictures with me, you will qualify for a no-session fee friends mini session in the winter or spring.
